Matters Arising: Sports Stadium: Cllr Andrew Burns indicated that he was unable to attend and offered three alternatives. Firstly he would answer any questions in writing, secondly he would send an official or thirdly he would attend March’s meeting. It was decided that the third option would be preferable.
Policing Matters – Neil was unable to attend but had provided information on a number of topics including the Eastern European Family Day, Garage Watch, Operation Align and Drinking in Public Places Legislation which Ronnie presented to the meeting. Any questions would be asked to Neil either directly, or at March’s meeting.
Violent Incidents at Crofters: We received a copy of incidents at Crofters for last two years. There have been a number of incidents involving personal harm, eight incidents in last six months of 2006. We have written to the Clerk of the Licensing Board, who will request a report from L&B Police. On receipt of this, we will consider our options. It was asked if we could obtain information on the other pubs in our area.
Transportation: - Bus Terminus: Work has started on redesigning the bus terminus at Westside Plaza. This is being undertaken by the West Edinburgh CPP Transport sub-group using plans submitted by Keith Bell.
Licensing: - Nothing in addition to Crofters above.
Planning: - There has been no official notification of a meeting regarding the trams at Napier University, although it was in last night’s Evening News. Andrew to investigate.
OPSF: - Betty asked if we had received a copy of “Get Up and Go”. We did. We were asked if we could write to Lothian Buses to ask if they will start issuing tickets for concessionary pass holders.
It was noted that Treasurer’s Report had been omitted from the agenda and the meeting was asked to include it. This was agreed to.
Treasurer's Report: - General Account - £1147.27, Election Account £316.27, Petty Cash £8.03. Ronnie asked if we could donate £150 to Gorgie Hearts who are trying to establish football coaching in the area. This was agreed.
Postponement of April’s Meeting: This item was tabled as the Local Government elections are being held one week after the proposed meeting date. We have been asked to visit Stevenson College to hold our meeting and also to view the new facilities, therefore April’s meeting will go ahead.
AOCB:
Power League/Pitz: New management have taken over and they have now started charging children £1 to play. Andrew has been asked to investigate their Planning conditions as it’s believed they were to provide a certain amount of free access.
Housing Redevelopment: John A is having a meeting at the Housing office on Wednesday regarding the gradual decant of Broomview House and the associated problems.
Fire-raising: There have been instances where a lit torch is being put down rubbish chutes, thereby setting fire to the other rubbish. John McE to monitor and John A to rise at his meeting on Wednesday.
Traffic Calming – Broomhouse: Charles Holloway, a resident from Broomhouse, was concerned regarding the profile of a number of traffic calming features within Broomhouse. Charles has recently moved here from London, where he had successfully lobbied his local Council over unlawful traffic calming there. Keith outlined the history of traffic calming and also some of the differences with traffic calming legislation between Scotland and England. Charles’ knowledge and expertise were welcomed and would be called upon. It was agreed to arrange a site visit with Council officials to see what problems there are with the current features and what can be done to resolved any issues that are discovered.
